Getting a child excited about brushing can feel like a daily battle. In our experience, the trick isn’t nagging — it’s making it a story. So we created the “Cavity Defenders”: a simple, kid-friendly way to teach the handful of habits that build a lifetime of healthy smiles.
The 5 habits every Cavity Defender knows
- Brush two times a day, for two full minutes — morning and before bed
- Floss every day to clean between the teeth where a brush can’t reach
- Eat smart — fruits, veggies, cheese, and plenty of water; go easy on sweets and soda
- See your dentist for regular check-ups that catch little problems early
- Fight the “sugar bugs” — the germs that love sugar and cause cavities
Two free printable coloring pages
We turned the Cavity Defenders into two free coloring-and-activity pages your kids can color at home. You’ll find them in the “Downloadable Patient Guides” section on this Resources page — just print, color, and let your little one become an official Cavity Defender. They’re great for rainy days, waiting rooms, and classrooms too.
Make it a routine, not a rule
A few things that genuinely help at home: use a two-minute song or a fun timer so brushing feels like a game, let your child pick out their own toothbrush, brush together so it’s a shared habit, and lead with praise instead of pressure. Kids who have positive early experiences with dental care are far more likely to keep those habits as adults.
We love helping children feel comfortable and confident about their teeth.
